Aug 17, 2010 just spend a few hours earlier today sanding/cleaning/preping my mower deck for graphite paint. i put 4 coats on, the stuff trys very quickly. I used the stuff from Tractor supply called EZ-Slide. Bought one gallon and brushed it on. teshing it out tomorrow on 7 lawns. Its been very rainy here and am tired of scraping so much grass off my mower.

Posts: 501. The best thing you can do is keep it as dry as possible and scrape off the debris a few times a season. Most mower decks are thick enough steel that the rest of the mower will dissolve before the deck corrodes too much. Even if it does, a replacement deck is usually a few hundred dollars tops.

Otherwise, if the mower has been used and you're just cleaning it, I use old motor oil after I clean the deck and just SLOP on the oil with an old paint brush.

Jan 29, 2014 Paint for bottom of mower deck. Redoing the bottom of a finish mower. This mower is used for grass cutting and just trying to preserve it. While it may not be a perfect match you could blend it out a bit where you wouldn't be able to see a difference. For bare metal its good to used an acid etch primer first for corrosion protection and proper adhesion.
